Enjoy math

When minds are honed, math and geometry will come easily.

Outlines defined:At the workshop

Students must try to grasp the significance of various principles in mathematics and geometry to enjoy the richness of the subject, according to P. Satyanarayana Sarma, chief editor of Ganita Chandrika, a book published on mathematics.

Addressing a workshop on `School Education Syllabus' organised by Arunodaya Concept High School at Vidyadharapuram, Mr. Sarma said in math, the pattern adopted to solve a problem was more important rather than the result. Creative thinking must be promoted and one must not always choose the path trodden by everybody else. Divergent thinking could lead to extraordinary outcome, he said, adding that hard work, zeal, curiosity were essential ingredients for success.

He said students must try to look beyond their textbooks. M. B. V. Lokeswara Rao, a D.S.C coaching expert, criticized the manner in which some institutions fleeced gullible parents in the name of imparting IIT foundation coaching. Not many institutions are doing a sincere job, he lamented.

School correspondent Bejawada Raja Rao warned the students against neglecting studies in Stds. VIII and IX, as it would be the foundation for a good show in Std. X.

He said though students today managed to score good marks in subjects, they lagged behind in general knowledge and common sense. He complimented Y.N.V.D Sriharsha, a student who had passed out of the school and had secured 3rd rank at the State-level in junior intermediate.

Ch. V. Narsimha Rao, founder director of the Association for Improvement of Maths Education said students must develop analytical spirit.
