Avid interest: In the sports magazine

For many school children who took part in the Olympic Run organised by the Krishna District Olympic Association, the Olympic motto “Citius, Altius, Fortius”, a Latin phrase that means “Swifter, Higher, Stronger”, was evident. It was heartening to see hundreds of students from municipal and aided schools carrying the Olympic flag with five rings signifying the five continents, jogging on the thoroughfares of the city and later interacting with some o f the renowned sporting personalities from the city.

Take part

“The most important thing in the Olympics is not to win but take part, just as the most important thing in life is not triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.” These were the words of Pierre de Coubertin, the Frenchman who founded the International Olympic Committee. “We should live up to these words,” was the message given by the dignitaries. Grand Master Koneru Humpy and international volleyballer G. Pradeep hogged the limelight. Krishna District Olympic Association secretary K. P. Rao said that the association would conduct the run every year and also stage annual sporting events throughout the year in the district.

The Hindu distributed its weekly sports magazine ‘The Sportstar’ to the school children.
