Celebrate the monsoon

SHWETHA GANDHI

Brighten a grey day with colourful rainwear.

Dancing in the rain: Well protected

From a pair of flaming hot fireman boots to a beautiful lotus flower umbrella, there is nothing better than the colourful cartoon characters to sport as also dressing up to kick one’s way through muddy puddles in the monsoon. This is the season for new and trendy collection of matching rainwear to make the most of rainy days.

Cartoons are cool

Rishab Talwar, a Std. V student Gitanjali school, says, “I am a cartoon freak and I would love to have theme based rainwear i.e. a printed Dragon Ballz raincoat with a Hoot cap and adding on to that I would wear matching boots as I enjoy playing in the muddy water.”

And the good news is that Winnie the Pooh, Garfield, Little Birdie Tweety and rest of the adorable cartoons from comics and television are out now as beautiful prints on raincoats and umbrellas in various patterns. All you have to do is choose your favourite one from the whole lot.

Trisha Samall says, ‘earlier we only had mono coloured raincoats and dull black umbrellas. Today you have bright cartoon and animal designs around. My brother prefers the Power Ranger, while my toddler cousins like the Tom and Jerry, Pooh and Barbie prints. They are so spoilt for choice that they often wish to have extra pairs, which are indeed so attractive that we end up buying more.”

Raincoats today are made of all types of fabric. An all weather raincoat has a removable lining, which can be worn anytime! These coats will warm up your heart and add colour to any grey day.

Sagarika Rao, Std. VII of Chinmaya Vidyalaya says, “Pink is my favourite colour, so I would prefer a long multicoloured kitty raincoat so that my legs don’t get spoilt due to rain, and a transparent pink umbrella to go with it.”

How about a hand-crafted umbrella? This year create your own designs using the umbrella craft kit. It includes a white waterproof kid size umbrella, a small paintbrush and a set of six mini pots of fabric paints.

Paint down your favourite designs and fill them with bright colours of your choice. To make the rainwear excitingly attractive and stylish, you can put on matching Wellington boots. For indoor play or outdoor fun, they are sure to make a splash and serve as excellent companions to raincoats and umbrellas, practical and fun to wear.

Monsoons, here we come!
