Kingfisher: Off to feed her kids.
Sometime ago, I saw a bird perched on the neem tree in our backyard. Next to the tree is a well. The bird had a long beak, blue wings and white neck and a maroon belly. I thought it was a kingfisher. I watched the bird with interest.
Then one day I saw it sit on the well. I was surprised to suddenly find it diving into the well. I ran up to the well and peered down. I saw that it was making a nest in small hole on the well wall. Soon the bird laid eggs in the nest. We watched the birds with interest. Then the eggs hatched.
The mother fed the chicks with cockroaches, wall lizards, garden lizards. Within a few weeks they had grown. They were curious to explore the world. They tried to fly but they fell into the water. I rescued them with the help of a rope and bucket over the pulley. The wings dried, the birds learned to fly.
The birds flew away one day.
