On a positive note

A day after he was sworn in chief minister, Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah appealed to the people to delink religion from terrorism. At the meeting of chief ministers on internal security, Abdullah expressed his sympathy for the families of the Mumbai attacks and said that Islam neither preached nor condoned killing of innocent people. The other need, he said, was to sensitise security forces to human rights issues since ignoring this led to repercussions both politically and from the security angle. Of his plans for J&K, Abdullah said he would leave “no stone unturned to put the state on the path to peace, progress and prosperity”, but added that peace was crucial to any progress.
