Sreelaxmi: Young entrepreneur.
Sreelakshmi, like her peers, likes to play with friends and watch cartoon channels. However, she has a passion to create websites. February 5, 2009, was special for 11 year old Sreelakshmi Suresh, who was conferred the National Child award for Exceptional Achievement 2008, by Ministry of Women & Child Welfare in New Delhi. It was special as it was her birthday.
Receiving awards is not new to Sreelakshmi, who has bagged 27 awards since she stepped into the world of web designing at the age of eight.
The title, the Youngest Girl Web Designer in the world, holds true for Sreelakshmi.
She is the one and only child member of the Association of American Webmasters (USA). Her stint with computers started when she was barely three years old. Her father taught her the first lessons – to create simple figures like circles, rectangles and to fill colours.
Constant encouragement from her parents inspired her to learn more. At the age of eight, she created a website for her school, Presentation Higher Secondary School, Kozhikode and thus became the youngest girl web designer. Since then she has worked on multiple web design projects. Her next web design project is for the Bar Council of Kerala.
Entrepreneur
Sreelakshmi says about her venture, “I have started a web designing company, eDesign ( www.edesign.co.in). But, at present, I do not have any intention to be a full time web designer. First, I want to complete my studies. I want to make edesign a full-fledged company after completing my studies.”
Studies are still her first priority. However, it does not deter her dreams. A keen viewer of cartoon channels, she likes Tom and Jerry.
She adds, “I am studying animation and I want to create an animation like Tom and Jerry.”
Young she may be but Sreelakshmi is an inspiring person.
Her ever-encouraging parents, Suresh Menon is an Advocate and mother, Viju Suresh is a Maths teacher.
Her parents are proud of her achievements and they continue to support her endeavours.
What do her parents have to say about her? Suresh Menon says, “She is very particular about her studies. Only after completing her homework and other things connected with her studies does she switch on her computer. In her examinations also she always gets good marks.”
He also adds she is always working on some to give it a new look.
