Winners : V. Shinaz Begum (second right) and S. Pragadheesh Chander (third right).

An annual elocution contest held at Sir Ramaswamy Mudaliar School marked the birth centenary of Sir A. Ramaswamy Mudaiar. Government aided and non-aided schools took part in this contest making it one of a kind. The preliminary contest held in the latter half of the day saw students talk about pollution and who really is responsible. There were ten finalists — five from Government and government aided schools and the rest from non-aided schools.

Uma Shankar, Advocate, High Court was the chief guest and the judge for the event.

I admire…

The finalists were given 30 minutes to speak on any celebrity, a leader they admire and love the most and reasons for the same. The finalists spoke eloquently on Mahatma Gandhi, Jawarharlal Nehru, A.P.J Abdul Kalam, Indira Gandhi, Barack Hussain Obama, Mother Teresa and Kalpana Chawla. What was commendable was the fact that they were all able to speak for the stipulated time without fumbling for words or an embarrassing pause. Just 30 minutes was enough for them to chalk out their speech and reel it off. Marked on diction, presentation and content, one from each side walked away with a certificate, a rolling trophy and a cash award.

In the Government and government aided section the winner was Shenaz Begam, Std. XII, Vellayan Chettiar School, Thiruvattayur. The runner up was K. Gracelin Jabila, SRM School, Korrattur. In the Non-aided Section Pragadheesh Chander, Std XII, Velammal Matriculation School, Mogappair was judged the best speaker and Indu Vadhani of SBOA School, Annanagar was the runner up.

The other finalists were given books as a token of appreciation.
