Pookalam: For the record.

Kozhikode's bid to enter the record books for the biggest pookkalam (flower arrangement) became a reality recently with its 17,662 sq. ft. floral carpet, with a radius of 75.5 ft, completed in 2.08 hours. “Kerala Soaps Manavamaithri Snehapookalam”, a combined venture of the district administration and the District Tourism Promotion Council, witnessed an overwhelming participation of citizens, with over 1,000 people taking part in the celebrations. Over 15 tonnes of flowers costing Rs.6.75 lakh were brought from Thovala in Tamil Nadu, including the traditional chettipoovu (marigold), mulla (jasmine), jamanthi (chrysanthemum), vadamalli, arali, kozhipoovu and Tube rose.
