BOOK WORM

Panna! Where are you?

ROHINI RAMAKRISHNAN

All it took was a nap on the beach. And Panna was carried away to a land under the sea…

Have you ever wondered about life under the sea? Take a magical journey with Panna and her brother Moti, who live in a coastal village. Moti, is 19 years old and looks after 11-year-old Panna.

Fascinating world

They spend a lot of time together on the beach.

One day she waits for him on the beach as instructed and falls asleep. Even “when the water touched Panna's feet, her anklets jingled slightly, very slightly. She did not wake up.” Panna is taken into the depths of the sea.

The oyster men and the fish ladies in their coral houses were fascinated with this strange enchanting “creature” and Panna though thrilled with the green moving sky and the streets cobbled with pearls starts bawling for her beloved brother Moti.

Gradually Panna forgets her life above the sea and settles down happily in her new world. But her brother Moti, grief stricken, searches for her.

The Fish King turns him into a black eagle with yellow eyes — but still he searches relentlessly for Panna.

Hauntingly beautiful, funny in places, the story captures our imagination, especially the beautiful illustrations by Puja Ahuja, done in the Madhubani style. A large “colour me” picture of a fish completes this all-satisfying book.
