More to learn

SUSHMA BARVATHAYA

Including Konkani as an optional subject has given children an opportunity to learn one more language!

Expanding curriculum: Adding languages

The State has introduced Konkani as the optional third language in schools from this academic year. More than two schools have already introduced the language and are getting good response from children.

Easy to learn

Rashmi, of Std VI of the Chinmaya High School, says, I like the lessons which are explained in a very humorous manner. Though it is my mother tongue, the dialect is different and hence I have always found it confusing. But I enjoy it.

For Sanjana of the same class, who was under the impression that it would be difficult to study another language.

Vaishnavi, of Std VI, is happy that she has learnt many Konkani words which she earlier supplemented with words from English or Kannada.

s Kavitha K R. headmistress, Chinmaya High School, says that the Konkani associations have been providing a lot of encouragement and that they have been receiving positive feedback.
