A li'l mouse: Treat them with respect

It's the day of the mouse now. According to the draft Animal Welfare Act, 2011 there is a list of punishments awaiting those who do not take proper care of experimental animals. However, the scientific community is not too happy as they feel if this Bill comes into force it could hamper research. Although no experimental animal is hurt intentionally during research, if the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) feels that the treatment being meted out to an animal could be hurting it, a scientist or a student involved in the research could be booked.
