Sri Sivananda Balalaya

World Environment Day was observed in Sri Sivananda Balalaya in the true spirit of the theme for this year — “Forests: Nature at your service”. The children's rally focussed on the message that forests are the wealth of the world and protecting them and increasing the forest cover was the prime duty of every citizen of the country.

A visit to M.R. Palayam Reserved Forest Area was the next activity on the day's agenda. Swarnappan, Forest Extension Officer, underlined the importance of cultivating and protecting trees to save mother earth. They learnt about a variety of forest trees, their numerous benefits to man and how to plant and nurture them. They were happy to get many saplings from the forest officer and vowed to plant and protect them as their contribution to the creation of more forests. This was undertaken by them in all seriousness as part of their project of the year. The programme included planting trees on the roadside also.
